What I got wrong about teamwork

Last month I covered for someone on breakfast.

I followed their setup instead of my own. It was not how I would have done it, but it was their section and I was standing in, so I ran it their way.

There was a guest complaint. When it came back, the fingers were pointed at me, because the chef whose setup it was would not take accountability for it.

The older I get, the more I understand that teamwork does not mean doing someone else's work. I do my part. They do their part. We meet in the middle.

If I had run that section the way I know how to run it, the complaint might not have happened. And if it still had, it would have been mine.
